The Price is Right Part 2 (What are you Worth)

What is someone worth? What are you worth? Like we said in part one if we define worth as what someone is willing to pay, then how much someone is willing to sacrifice or give for someone else can give us an idea of our worth.

Many times we wonder what our value is. With any transaction, you buy something to get something out of it. That is the issue with how we judge our worth today. We may get a compliment on our looks but is that all we are good for? Someone may be interested in us just because of what we have but is that all we are worth? We may get a lot of attention and accolades based on our athletic abilities but is that all that there is to a person? Not only that but with every transaction comes strings attached that now you somehow owe them something.

This can be a vicious cycle until some people feel used or they feel they are not worth anything because that is what people have been willing to "pay" into their life. In some cases, because we have devalued ourselves we are more willing to give of ourselves to harmful situations or people because they give us even the slightest attention that we amount to our "worth".

Here is the good news. God values you more than you could ever know. The price set for your freedom and redemption was a high price that no one could pay but God himself. In 1 Corinthians 7:23 it says, "God paid a high price for you, so don't be enslaved by the world (or other people in other translations)." Jesus paid the ultimate price for you on the cross. Because of your sin and the sin of all of us, we had a high debt to pay to God for all the mistakes we had done. But Jesus lived a perfect life, stepped in for us, took the punishment on the cross for us, and paid the price of sin once and for all.

This has huge implications for us now. Because he purchased us at a high price that means we are worth a lot to him, like a whole lot! He gave his very life for us. Not only that, but you are so rare and uniquely made which means you are even more valuable. There is only one of you!

This means that when others try to "buy" us based on something they like about us they can't have it because Jesus has already bought all of us for a high price. No one can match the price he paid. Because of this, we dedicate our lives to him and we do not allow ourselves to become "enslaved by the world" and what they say about us.

With our new found worth we cannot forget that Jesus has placed that same high value on every person. No matter what we think of someone else we must remember that Jesus was willing to pay a high price for them as well. We should seek to value all human life like Jesus does, and it is a high value.

Why would Jesus pay such a high price for you and for the world? Because the price was right because of his love for us. All he asks in return is we give our lives to him and have a life-giving relationship with him. Today find your worth in a loving savior named Jesus and find value in everyone you meet.
