The Little Red Hen
Sarah and I were watching a a pretty funny and interesting show called Duck Dynasty. Maybe you have heard of it. One of the funny parts in one of the episodes was when the CEO of Duck Commander, Willie, said he feels like the Little Red Hen and the rest of his guys that are working for him are like the farm animals because they are always up to something besides work.
That made me scan my childhood memories and try to think about what that story was a about. Then I remembered. The Little Red Hen was about a hen that decided to plant some wheat seeds so that she could have some bread. She asked her barn yard friends to help and they did not want to because of different reasons. Finally, after a lot of work she asked who like to help her eat the bread. Well everyone wanted to but she told them because they did not help, she was going to eat it herself. You can read the full story here if you want.
Even though this is a kid's story I believe there is still truth in it. I feel like sometimes God is like the Red Hen (I know it is funny to think about) and he is asking me to help him do something. At the time it seems meaning less, not fun, and could be a lot of work but God sees the final product of having fresh bread. So many times we ignore him and we miss out on the blessing of serving him and his people. I do believe that God allows all people to the table but how much better would it be knowing that you were are a part of making that bread.
There are so many things that have to be done in order to continue to move God's kingdom forward. Instead of saying God I can't do that because of this or that let's remember the fresh bread that will come out of our hard work. We got to know that what God calls us to do will be worth it in the end. So as we live our lives let's lend a ear and hand towards God's plan.
"As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace"
1 Peter 4:10
