Believe
Sarah and I went shopping this past weekend. I was not feeling 100% with the whole shopping thing but we did find some good deals and some great gifts for our friends and family. One thing that sticks to my mind was when we entered Macy's. I am not crazy about department stores but we needed to go in there to check something out. As soon as you walk into Macy's you see a huge sign that says Believe. Underneath it there is a big red mailbox. Near the mail box there are letters and pencils. When you enter the store kids are encouraged to come to the table and write letters to Santa about what they want for Christmas. Right next to that mailbox is a believe meter. It is a big clock looking thing that has the phrase imagine, wish, dream, and believe. The goal of meter is to see it go all the way to the top to let everyone know that there are others that believe in Santa and that Santa is for real. I am not to sure how they determine how the meter goes up or down. Maybe they decide by how much they have sold or not sold... ok maybe not. It really takes the Santa thing to the next level. It allows kids to be a part of the Santa experience.
As I was looking at this item I thought to myself what I am Believing in this Christmas season? I know most of us are not believing in Santa but what are we Believing in? The word believe means to "accept (something) as true; feel sure of the truth of." We believe so many things to be true but what do you believe more than anything without a shadow of a doubt.
Some kids you could tell that there is no Santa and they would reply that you are lying. They will tell you a time when they asked something from Santa and it was there Christmas morning. They will tell you when they left out cookies for Santa and they were gone the next morning. They will say they were able to drop off a letter that they know went to Santa. They will also say that they got to sit on Santa's lap and tell him the things they wanted.
I hope that that is the same kind of faith that we can have in our Lord. I am once again reminded of what Jesus called the faith of a child. We don't always understand things as big adults but we need to just believe and have the same faith in our God. Maybe you can think back in your life and remember that time you prayed and God answered you. You can think of that time when you read the word of God and something clicked in your mind. Maybe you remember that time when you felt so alone but yet there was a part of you that felt God was there wrapping his arms around you. Whatever that moment was it was a moment that faith in your heart. It is kind of like that believe meter at Macy's. In your heart that meter has gone up and up as you continue to put your faith in Him.
So as you pass by or see the ad on t.v. remember where your faith firmly stands. I pray today that you will have a faith like a child in the things of God. Allow him to do what he wants in your life. He is a great God that loves you very much. So today do you Believe? I pray that you believe in what God says to you today and you will be able to follow his direction in your life.
