I'm Coming Home
I went on a trip yesterday to Springfield to find some new interns. All the way home I kept thinking of how nice it was going to be when I got there. I was going to be able to come into my apartment and know that my wife would be there to greet me and tell me welcome back. I would be able to lay my head to rest and know that I was in a safe place.
I heard this song while on the road and it made me want to get home even sooner. It is called "I'm Coming Home." It is by Diddy. I don't really care for his music or his lyrics in this song but I really liked what the chorus had to say.
"I’m coming home
I’m coming home
Tell the World I’m coming homeLet the rain wash away all the pain of yesterday
I know my kingdom awaits and they’ve forgiven my mistakes
I’m coming home, I’m coming home
Tell the World that I’m coming"
I was so excited to come home because I knew it was going to place of rest and of peace. It is a place that is forgiving and understanding. As I thought about this I thought about a parable that Jesus shared with his disciples that I talked to the students about on Sunday night. It is the parable of the Prodigal Son or the Lost Son. I am sure many of you have heard this story from Luke 15:11-32. I encourage you to read it. In the story the young man took his father's inheritance and left his home. After awhile he found himself in a pig sty. He was dirty, hungry, and wishing he could go back home. He decided to go back home. On his way home I am sure he was feeling a lot of guilt and regret but I also wonder if he was singing a song similar to this one. He had to hope that when he got back home that he would be restored. When he got home, his father came out to meet him and threw his arms around him and welcomed him home. They threw a huge party because this son of his was dead but now is alive and he was once lost but now he is found.
Some of you may be just like that prodigal son. Maybe you have completely turned your back to God. Maybe you have not allowed Him to have all of your heart. Maybe you don't even know what it is like to know a God that cares for you. Well today is your day to come home. You can begin to sing this song in your heart. When you come back to God he is quick to allow his love and concern to wash your pains away. When you come back home you will feel his grace forgiving your sins and the many mistakes you made in the past. It is time for you to come home. You felt like you could do it on your own and you are quickly finding that you need his help. It is never to late and you have never done too much for the father not to accept you. He will wait for you but why wait when you can experience his peace, forgiveness, and love now. It is time for you to come home. I'm coming home.
