Grenade

I was in my car heading to the office this morning and I heard a song on the radio that maybe some of you know or maybe you don't know. It is called Grenade by Bruno Mars. It is an interesting song. The guy in the song talks about how he would take all this pain for this girl but yet she is unwilling to do the same for him. He wonders if she really even loves him. Here is an excerpt of the chorus of the song...

To give me all your love is all I ever asked
'Cause what you don't understand
Is I'd catch a grenade for ya
Throw my hand on the blade for ya
I'd jump in front of a train for ya
You know I'd do anything for ya

See I would go through all this pain
Take a bullet straight through my brain
Yes I would die for ya, baby
But you won't do the same

Can you image loving so much that you would be willing to die for them? Crazier than that can you imagine dying for someone when they would not even be willing to do the same or even care that you would be willing to do that for you? Obviously you would say that this guys should not waste his time because this girl obviously does not truly love him. Even more than that she is just playing with his heart and the way she reacts to his love is like throwing his love in the trash.

This song seems really familiar to me. The crazier thing is that this person not only say that he would die for us but he actually did for us. In John it says there is no higher love than for a man to lay down his life for his friend. I think by now you know who am talking about, Jesus. You know he actually died for us while we were yet sinners. He loved us so much that he was willing not only to say that he would die for us but he actually did die for us. Not only did he take a grenade or an easy way out, he died on the cross for us. One of the worst ways to die.

That is only half the story though. You see even though he died for us he wants to know that we love him and would be willing to give our lives back to him. Yet so many of us take that loving gift and throw it in the trash. It is like we are saying we really don't care that he was so willing to that. Even if we are saying we do love him for doing that, how are we showing that we love him. If my wife said all the time that she loved me and never showed me that, I would begin to wonder if she really does love me.

So today don't only recognize what Jesus did for you but give him thanks for it. So many of us have taken this gift for granted for far too long. Why not tell him that you love him and even take it a step further and show him that you love him. I think the greatest way we can show him that we love him is by giving our lives to him for whatever he wants us to do. That is a true loving relationship.
